Are you going to DIY? Are all four struts shot?
If so, highly recommend these:
Monroe Quick-Struts for the front
Monroe Sensa-Trac for the rear
You'll also need to get some new strut mounts for the rear:

The Quick-Struts include new mounts and coil springs....if they didn't, they wouldn't be pre-assembled :lol:
I got all my struts from NAPA, Monroe Quick-Struts for the front, and the Monroe Sensa-Tracs for the rear.

No, not a DIY, dont have the spring compressor. I have a mechanic about 15 blocks away, he said only three are shot, but I'm gonna replace them all now, so later when the 4th one goes I wouldnt have to.
He wanted for 2 front and one rear with labor $400, which I guess is ok. Will look at those, thx. |

Yes, that's the purpose of the Quick-Srut, it is a pre-assembled strut so no spring compressor is necessary. Wow.....$400 :shock:

nah, no air. Unfortunately this olds doesnt have much time to live. The body is ok, but the frame is rusted through, needs a new motor mount, new set of tires, tune up. Those things I'll get soon. But the whole car will be shot in another year or so.
But just for shits and giggles, what kind of set up are we talking about, and how much would they charge me?

Like struts, springs also lose their effectiveness. You'll save a lot of money doing it yourself and in order to do it yourself, I highly recommend those pre-assembled struts unless you have something like this:

to compress the old spring and install it on the new strut. I couldn't even compress my old springs (yea, I had tried some regular struts at first..then switched to the quick-struts) they were so worn out.

Dont have that. Well if I did do it myself, with the preassembled one, I just unbolt the olds one top and bottom, and swap in the new one right?
But what about the old springs? Wont they try and bounce when I loseen the shocks? |

Yes, you unbolt the top and bottom and remove...
The springs are held in place so they won't be going anywhere during removal of old strut assembly...
Murrays Discount Auto store has these available for rental (pay and then get all your money back when done with tool). This will help to compress the spring a little to make it easier to remove.

Well, looks like I am going to do it myself. Before I do thought I will get a manual for my car, go over it first, then get into it.
Do you know if AutoZone, Murrays, Pep Boys sell those preassembled struts, or do I have to buy them online. |

I would imagine you do...if not, then I bet Murray's would have them or could get them.
I checked Autozone's site and they just have Gabriel struts (not pre-assembled).
Yes, I would highly recommend getting a book...a Haynes manual should do the trick.
