does my 307 v8 have one, and it would be under the QJ right? Also one of them helix things to go under there. Would that be a good idea?

There is no restrictor plate.
If it were that easy, I would have already done it on my 307, and told all about it.

The QJet had the ability to feed 455s from the factory, but, by design, will only feed the mixture your engine needs.
I used the same carb on the 461 that powered my grey Coupe into the mid 12s.

"One of those helix things" sounds like one of those rip offs that has been discussed billions of times over the last 50 or so years.
