Hey,
88Delta88, is that "Dash Display" a part of WinALDL, cause they don't show a screenshot of that on there site....I got all the parts to hook it up, just got to put it together, I am just going to use a small book pc desktop computer as a diagnostic tool basically. Maybe I'll get an old laptop, but that's my plans for now....does anyone know any programming?
Wondering how you would go about making the dash display look like this:
Any ideas?

| Looks like a great guage setup... It would take some skill, and probably visual C. But I do recall seeing a ALDL program that had a very similar guage setup. I never tried the program, maybe check it out. I think it was called EFI Live or something. Looked decent, but I havent tried it. |

Well, I did find EFILive, Version 4 to be exact is compatible with ALDL, but it is not free, and not sure how much it is either....it does look nice though :?

As i remember, they have a trial version... Dont know if it is fully functional, but maybe if you didnt see the trial version, look for it. Maybe they dont offer it anymore too... I dunno!
It looks like I have an update to install for WinALDL, since I am having problems with us/metric conversions... That was fixed in august! |

Yea...they do have a trial version but it's not worth installing only half of a program...not sure what they don't include in the trial version, but usually for most software companies, it is an important part of the software that most people want, I bet they don't include the digital dash part....it's supposed to be customizable too! :D I found a crack for Version 5, no version 4 though, version 5 is OBDII, so that didn't help much... :x

Damn OBD2... why did the automotive industry decide to standardize everything???!! :-) Just joking, I hear ODB2 is great, kinda even wish I had a vehicle new enough to have it!
Anyways, Brando have you made your cable yet? Want me to start snapping pictures of everything in my car? I will take pictures of anything you guys want... I know I have a request for me to yank the center console and snap some pics. |

Sure, take some pics, I'd like to see what everything looks like....I haven't made my cable yet, I'll do it over this weekend probably. I'd pretty much know what to do, I have been planning to do this for quite a while, but now I finally have the motivation since I wanna see exactly why my car is running fucked up.....I am guessing fuel pressure, but I will see, since the program gives you your fuel pressure, doesn't it?

Actually, I just thought of something, would you mind getting some text together and pics to make a tech page? :D Could start a tech info page and you would have the honors of being the first one! 8) You don't need to code it in HTML if you don't want to, since I'll have to code it to work in phpbb anyways. So just get instructions and pics together....and email it to my email address in my sig.

| Brando, the only way you can read fuel pressure is with a gauge tapped into the line, unless you could figure some way to put an electric pressure sensor into the schrader valve and wire it into the program somehow. The computer doesnt monitor fuel pressure, it adjusts the amount of fuel based on the O2 sensor, Map sensor, and various other sensors.... |

Ahh....that must be OBDII that has the fuel pressure read out then...cause I did see it on one of the programs out there...o well, my dad and I are going to work on my car sometime soon, since it is kind of stranded on the street, it won't start at all. Measured battery voltage, 11.40, which should be ok, but we tried jumping it anywayz, and it still didn't start. It just makes a clicking noise, the engine doesn't even try to turn....any ideas as to what that could be? Starter?

starter stuck, or bad ground between the starter and the block...the clicking is the solenoid kicking the starter drive out, but the starter itself isnt spinning over...11.4 volts should be more than enough...
On the fuel pressure thing...OBD2 cant sense fuel pressure either, that i'm aware of..you CAN do a fuel pressure test, which basically means manually activating the fuel pump with a scan tool so you can check pressure with a gauge. Thats why they put the schrader valve inline, is to be able to tap into the fuel pressure line before the return side and after the regulator, to check running and static fuel pressure. I have yet to see any cars come thru that you can scan fuel pressure off the scan tool with. fuel level and voltage, yes....fuel pressure, not that i've seen anyways...OBD 2 is alot easier to work with, and gives alot more scan capabilities and sensor readings than the older OBD1, including misfire counters, cylinder balance testing, and etc.. |

Well, turns out the battery wasn't giving out it's full amperage (I didn't check that) and so it needed to be recharged. Now she runs good, must of been the alarm that ran the battery down, because I haven't started it in a while because you can't really drive with a leaky gas tank, unless you want to explode, that will be repaired on friday, bringing it to the shop, nothing like discounts on napa parts since my bro works there. Now, all I need to do is get that damn head unit fixed, and she'll be good for now....I'll finally be able to work on getting that whole computer diagnostic thing together then.

Well, my gas tank and fuel pump was replaced, shop did it. I wouldn't feel very comfortable working with gas, if ya know what I mean...
And on another part, I got my ALDL cable professionally made by me (haha) and it looks good, hopefully it works good. We'll find out tomorrow.
I also have to order that replacement part for my CD Player, it's about $11 (including shipping).
