I have seen a special intake for an inline 6 so you can mount a 4 barrel carb on it, what are your guys' opinions on this?
Heres a link http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10101/s-10101/p-100000212884/mediaCode-ZX/appId-20363700/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:10000021288420363700 |

Why would you need a 4 barel car b on a Chevy stovebolt six? thats usually used with a small 4 bbl carb (<450cfm) unless you have a heavily built up L6 a 2 barrel carb will give you better throttle response and bottom end Tq, which is what the inline six was designed for.
So what ya working on? a vintage Bonnevile racer? |

Hi c_creations, Turbocharged400sbc, hello all

The manifold at the other end of the link will not fit a "stovebolt", and as far as I know Chevrolet never produced an "L head" anything.
You could say that "Add V8 power to your in-line 6-cylinder engine" is a bit of an exaggeration.

Appologies are not appropriate in this case, I bring these things up because I believe you (and other TOC members) are interested in accurate communications.
If you had called it an inline (or straight) Six, I would not have confused it with other designs.
My guess is '52 was the last 216 incher. Although the next generation 235 did not use "Stovebolts" for fasteners, it did keep the nickname. '62 was a very different design based loosely on the SBC and was either 230 or 250 CID.

lol i jus learned me sumthin new... how you always did tha handy link deal 88, thanks for the info! now i will have to try it sometime!
I have rebuilt (rings bearings etc-no overbore-farmers rebuild i guess) a 230/250 from a 68 chevy van (no bolts holding them dampners on lol!) I noticed that the rockers and head looked allot like the sbc (a bit heavier though!)
I know about the stovebolt cause my gramps sent me back here with a square head wrench set (some are stamped with sizes others arent) 7/16,9/16,5/8,11/16 the other couple i havent measured yet-just good memories of my gramps, he had them since his first toolbox. doubt they are antiques though.....
thanks for that link info!
you shoulda been here when i was giving brando a headache emailing him the video files of the twin V6 442!

That manifold is only part of the package that makes the 292 run with V8s. The rest of the package consists of mostly custom made parts (read very expensive).
Without the rest of the combo it may run as good as it did from the factory.

| My little '76 Omega has that 250 IL6 witht he integral head/exhaust manifold. It has a 1bbl carb that performs pretty well except I have had a Heck of a time getting it to behave well when cold. I hate the choke on it. Also, it has a throttle solenoid that sticks sometimes and other times will not. If I adjust it correctly everything works fine if it doesn't stick, if it does then the idle is too low. I haven't been able to find a replacement yet. Is it the age of the carb or the design? Rochester 1bbl. Maybe you have had some experience with these Norm? Or anybody... |

Hi c_creations,OldsGuy, all,
Quote: ......... Maybe you have had some experience with these Norm? .........
More experience with the 235. My only experience with the "late" 6, was the one that came in my '63 Chev II.
Got it for a good price 'cause it had a broken piston.
At 70K it ran perfectly.
When it came time to rebuild it, A 283 V8 took its place.
Nothing wrong with the design, It'll just take some searching for the correct replacement parts.
A good reason to stay friendly with your mom & Pop parts supplier.
You might also try to find a factory shop manual and pay whatever it takes.
Quote: ......... custom parts. like what?...........
Most everything that moves.
Custom made to the specs you supply, not to be confused with aftermarket bolt ons.
After I posted I got to wondering if Clifford is still in business.
He is still selling aftermarket stuff, so it will be easier and cheaper than I thought.

With luck, and a lot of trial and error, it might run as good as Oldsguy's 250, after he gets it running right.
