Well, this paint job has really turned into a full scale show car assault. LOL
I started this project with my friend a year ago. It was going to be just a simple "fix the rust and repaint" and now you'll see where its at now:
And here's the Oldsmobile embossed valve covers painted the same color that the body of the car will be painted:
Now the frame just needs to be stripped of everything and we're sending it out to be media blasted. Then the side rails will get boxed, the rails in the back will be notched, braces and two support braces added just behind the rear axle. We're also boxing in the forward mounting points for the rear lower control arms.
Going with UB machine tubular front upper control arms, modified G-body spindle and C5 Corvette 13" brakes up front. Out back will be '98-'02 F-body 12" disc brakes.
Thinking about painting the entire engine silver/aluminum with black pulleys and accessory brackets.
Looks like the 17x11's with 315/35ZR17 tires should fit no problem in the back once the notch is completed. Up front we're modifing the inner fenders for more wheel/tire clearance. Hopefully enough to fit a 17x9 with 275/40ZR17 tires.
Hopefully more to come... |

WOW!
Looking good....total frame off restoration on your hands there.
That dark blue looks good on the valve covers....real nice color.
Should look real nice once it's done!

LOL, yep. My friend who is doing the body work put it this way:
"If your going to be a bear, might as well be a grizzly"

Thanks.
Looks like we're stepping up the rear tire size a bit. Instead of the measly 315's, were going to make 335/35's fit. :) LOL
Should look pretty killer. And most off all, they'll be tucked inside the body and not sticking out side of it like so many I see. No air shocks needed, etc. |

Well, the 335/35ZR17 tires are on their way. Bought a used set off Ebay for just $77 for the pair.
As soon as I receive them I'm taking them down to my friends house so that we can use them for mock up. As soon as we determine the proper back spacing for the wheels, I'm ordering another set of the American Racing Hopster wheels in a 17x11" size.
I've also decided to give the Art Carr TH-2004R to my brother since his 403 has destroyed the piece of junk TCI TH-2004R. And I am now on the lookout for a T56 6 speed trans out of a '94-'97 F-body. After all, this is the easiest time to do all of the modifications.
Also thinking about swapping to a Ford 9" rear with 3.89 gears. With the 6 speed it should make for a really nice street car plus highway cruiser.
Engine is almost ready to come out. :) |

Thanks.
Here's a couple of pics of the new 335/35 tires sitting next to the frame.
Frame is getting sent off this week for the media blasting and primering. I have to media blast a few chassis parts and try out my new powder coating system on them.
We're also welding all of the motor mount holes on the frame shut, EXCEPT for the Oldsmobile motor mount holes. This way I can say I have an Olds only frame. |
