oye. the clear coat on my oldsmobile is like gone. i mean, the roof, the trunk and the hood are clear coat free. where no clear coat and clear coat parts of the car meet, there's like this white-ish film that can only be look like if you were to rip a piece of paper (you'd get that sort of effect).
so, to make the best of it right now, anyone have any suggestions? i've read a little bit about some rubbing compound to try and clean it up. but, before i start that, does anyone have any other way of approaching it for getting the best of what it is i'm trying to do? some other procedure or method?
kthnx for reading. =P |

If you know it han't been done already, check with your local GM dealer about the warranty.
Don't know if you're still elegible for the free repaint, but its worth a try.

| You could try certain compounds. Your first bet would be to try and get it wet-sanded and buffed. It may or may not work. You can always got to a well known body shop and have it re-cleared for you there, for a price, of course. |

i've already done the wetsanding to the hood and used rubbing compound on a section and it showed quite an improvement to the way it was before. i was just wondering if anyone might have some tips to get it looking "newer."
88 Coupe, you mentioned the warranty? how could such an old car still be elegible for a free repaint? was there some sort of defect that i don't know of? :) |

Yes.

If it was still in force, my guess is that you've voided the warranty.

You will never know unless you check with a GM dealer.

if it is faded that bad do not wet sand it at all, the paint is way to thin right now
buffing would be the only way to get the shine back
doin the buffing your self should not void a warranty at all |
