| i've got a '88 Olds 98 (it's funnier at the parts store) with speakers in the doors already. it's a regency brougham and i was just wondering if anyone has ever taken off that stupid encasement? i'm thinkin about replacing the speakers down there so can someone else also confirm if it's 5.25" that are in use there too. kthnx. =P |

Yes, taking a look at Crutchfield, they are 5 1/4" speakers in the front doors.
Is it a premium sound system, like Bose? If so...you can't just replace the speakers as the Bose speakers are not the standard 4 ohm, they are 2 ohm or sometimes 1 ohm. Due to this, if you replace them with aftermarket speakers which are 95% of the time 4 ohm, it will decrease in volume, half the volume.
If it is not Bose, then disregard what I said before... :lol:

| the only thing which identifies what's behind that grill says "dimensional sound" ...it's probably like the bose system, but you know what? the speakers there are already dying and aren't as loud anyways. i've already replaced the factory deck so i don't think it'll be that much of a difference. i hope it'll be louder because i can never hear the mid's up front, i can only hear those 3.5" in the dash. |

Well, I would get a 5.25" component set, put the woofers in the doors, and then put the tweeters in place of the 3.5" speakers.....just my opinion.
