:D been doing alot of thinking.. the cutlass has about 133k miles on it, and she's gettin tired.. well, how about dropin a 3.4 in it? i know its not that big of a jump, but ill have a ton less miles, and a lot more HP.. meaning, get more life out of the car.. my brother inlaws friend told me he'd put it in for me, so alls i godd do, is make sure its what i want to do.. what do you think? drop a new engine in, or let it run till it dies, and get a truck.. (only chevy or GMC) :P

Ahhh, I see what you mean. It might be in the heads or the way the ECM is tuned. Either way, I am almost positive that you can squeeze the 210HP out of it, but I could be wrong. I know that the 3.4 is prone to cam bearing problems when the milage starts to get high, but it all depends on how it was used and taken care of.

LOL Hans always does....
hmmm how about throwing the 3400...in the back?
6.5L.....
lol sorry i had to....
the 3400 is a direct swap for the 3100 engine but you will need the Injectors at least and then it may not run the greatest...
the best thing you can do would be to get a 3400 96 and later OBDII harness/PCM etc with the engine and throw it into your 94...
with OBDII PCM's you have the ability to have it flashed with whatever parameters you need for your specific combo... |

| The 170-180hp 3.4 is the "3400 SFI" pushrod. The other was the DOHC 3.4 that GM had vested some of it's time to (problem prone) I'm considering dropping a newer 3400 and tranny into my Cutlass... that is, if a 3800 swap (N/A!!!) isn't feasible |

Anytime I have had an engine in the air, I've taken precautions to keep it from dropping/falling, in order to protect it from damage.
If you are looking for a little more torque, there's not a lot more involved in using a 455.

;)
a 3400 should be very compatible (from what I've heard) minus the pcm, obd II, and such... but your telling me that I can "slap" in a 455? |

No argument. Also, no Challenge, it's something anyone can do. How much torque do you expect to gain by replacing a small engine with another small engine?
Worth your time? Go for it.

"Slap"? No. I don't recommend anyone slap anything together.
Difficult? Not the hardest swap I've ever seen. Not as easy as replacing one engine with different version of the same, as it requires some fabrication.
Would the gain be worth the time and expense? Considering the size and weight of your car, I'd say well worth it.
Regards, Norm. |

Well, for those of us not made of money...
It's better than replacing it with a newer 3100 now isn't it?
I'm not trying to build a street racer... it's a family car... in case you hadn't noticed... |
