| Timothy, I think you missed the hint of sarcasm floating around this topic... ;-) I dont think 88coupe was seriously suggesting you replace your FWD 6cyl with a RWD 8cyl beast. But it could be done. Thats what he was getting at. Do the benefits outweigh the cons? |

Yeah, I made the mistake of reading and responding to this post BEFORE realizing what a jacka$$ that other guy was...
I already knew the conversion necessities for that particular application
I believe a 3400 would be the best decision in terms of simplicity and cost... being that I need a new motor and trans anway
3800 would be nice though... I know it's possible. I'm just wondering about the compatibility issues |

| The closest match for a fwd v8 would most likely be the 5.3l found in the new Impalas... but I doubt it would fit in my car |

why not a cadillac 4.5L??? almost a direct swap! ;-)
Just kidding, those motors are garbage... I worked on one once. Horrible experience. Trying to find parts, or a mechanic that didnt just laugh at me for working on that motor.... But its a v8!
Northstar, my friend, buy a northstar... ;-) |

yeah, I've heard horror stories about those old caddy engines... *shiver*
I was considering that at one point in time... I don't have anywhere near the income necessary for that :)
Then there's all that custom fabrication... and ENGINE BAY SIZE
I have the older 3100... without roller rockers and the revised intakes
Those, plus the slight increase in bore should make things a bit more lively (I'm also adding a 62mm throttle body to it)
If I could find one cheaper than those off rsm... |

Exactly. It'll work in the front or rear, take your choice.

They're frequently on Ebay.
EDIT: Search Ebay for Toronado engine. All I found was an earlier 425. Heres the link.

Not as difficult as a BBO but very doable. I would recommend any Cad V8, except the 4100 series.

Best choice, but also the most expensive to purchase.

I was not. Converting FWD to conventional RWD is not something I'd normally suggest to a hobbyist.

I'm not interested in the old caddy engines *shiver*
The northstars ARE too expensive
RWD was never even considered due to it's lack of discernable benefits (and widespread popularity... I'm a nonconformist)
I think I'll just wait for the DOD equipped pontiac g6 gtp coupe  |
