FCR Performance http://dewchugr.home.insightbb.com/fcr_site/
Dick Miller http://www.dickmillerracing.com/
Bill Trovato http://www.btrperformance.com/
Greg's Performance, Harvard, ILL (815) 648-4602

I'd deal with any of these guys. Great reps among the Olds crowd.

STAY AWAY FROM MONDELLO! Once upon a time, he was "Mr. Oldsmobile". Let his son-in-law take over the business and he is quickly killing it with overcharging, selling used parts as new, double-charging credit cards, holding engines hostage, and general screwing around. References upon request.

Hi, c_creations, texasred, hello everyone,

Add "Smitty" at MJ Proformance http://www.mjproformance.com/ to the list.

No personal experience with any of them. All except Mondello, have great reputations.

Pick the one closest to you to save shipping charges.

Regards, Norm

Good call, Norm!

I've not bought from Smitty but spoken to him on a couple of boards. Seems like another upright guy with a great rep.

Almost forgot http://www.oldsperformanceproducts.com/

I didn't add it because I believe he is better suited for a pro level competitor

Smitty is probably the best at the street/strip level, and beyond that, he is as good as the rest.

Except for Joe Mondello (before he moved up North) I have never dealt with any of them, as everything is readily available within a 30 mile radius of my home.

My knowledge of these vendors comes from their own words on the various Olds Permormance boards,

That intake is for Batten heads only.

Maybe you should contact one of these builders and get some recommendations.

Hi c_creations, All,

Lot of talk out there. Not many talkers with actual Olds "Victor" experience.

NASCAR SBO Victor from the '60s. It will be on my next build.

This is the one I have experience with. I know it needs cleaning, I don't do showcars.

When "they" only tell part of the story, "they" are lying.

It's a reasonable price, considering it was designed for high horsepower/high rpm small blocks, and it works very well in that application.

Since you are far from pro level, it won't help you a bit. With your combo, you could even lose power. They look cool at shows, though.

BTW, it won't fit under your stock hood if an adequate air cleaner is used.

Having said that, Olds parts are available everywhere. The reason you were advised to talk to one of the above vendors, is to have him help you to put together a combination of parts that work together.

Or you could just spend $400, plus gaskets and labor, just to make your car slower.

This is a better choice, but IIRC, the one you already have is more than you need.

I guess I should have checked the link before I posted.

Broke the Cardinal rule. Assumed the pic was a SBO victor.

Don't remember ever seeing a Batten manifold, but that one sure looks like mine. Can't be, NASCAR version has been out of production for over 30 years.

Andy Miller (Olds Performance Parts) is the expert, so both mine must be Battens.

Then again, a while back, I posted that pic on ROP, and no one corrected me. You just don't mislabel a part on ROP, and not hear about it.

This is really bothering me. Maybe I can find out here.

It's been suggested several times.

88,

Boy, that sure LOOKS like the Batten Victor...

I don't see a water jacket/thermostat housing on it. Is there one?

Nope.

It was designed for racing, not street. User drills and taps water jackets, as needed, for his own individual setup.

ok. ill talk to some ppl, I also have to get hold of a cam grinder. around here its hard. I talked to the guy that put the motor in my car, and from what he said that he just built it to be more performance, so there was no thought in the cam TC and rear end combination. so when that gets done it will help alot, i can go from there.

Hi texasred, all,

As you already knew, you were right. They are, indeed, Edelbrock Victors for Batten heads.

Everyone else:
Back in the day, C.J. Batten made aftermarket aluminum racing heads for SBO. Edelbrock made the manifold for that setup.

Back in the day when stock cars were still stock. They also made a "factory" intake manifold for use on 350 Olds in NASCAR. It's the one I thought I had.

Yesterday, I had NASCAR Manifolds and had never seen a Batten. Today, I find I have Battens, and have never seen a NASCAR.

Sorry about the misinformation.

c_creations:
Other than the name confusion, my comments stand.
