I was looking at this, wondering if it would work with my engine? Anyone know of Elgin? Do they have a web site? Does it have any disadvantages?

Hi Brando, hello everyone,

Double roller chains will wear/stretch less than OEM, so will last longer.

NAPA should have the same design, probably higher quality.

I know Elgin Cams, but they are not affiliated.

Ok, I see the "Premium" one from NAPA, and it's double roller. I'm confused about what the set on eBay says: "WILL BE ABLE TO ELIMINATE DAMPENER WITH THIS ROLLER CHAIN SET"

Do all double roller chain sets eliminate the dampener?

Not normally. Maybe someone else will explain more. I know James can.

Elgin website shows SS-3132 as a performance set. In your application, it will not perform better that any other double rolller.

Website also tells me they manufacture mostly OEM and OEM replacement products. I was familiar with them but haven't use their products. My confusion was cause by the same name being used by them and the cam grinder.

This machine shop has used ELGIN cams in some of their high end racing engines. They also do my machine work.

Not sure about the words dampner or dampener.

There is a harmonic damper, (balancer) that is on the crank, adjacent to the chain. There are dampers used with valve springs to control harmonics. The dampers used in suspensions are called shock absorbers, or struts.

Just saw your last post. I forgot your '87 is a big car and it's not driven from the wrong end.
