I just installed my new pioneer DEH-P3700MP, dont care for a wiring harness so i hard wired it all with butt connecters and electrical tape, wiring is bulletproof i know everythings hooked up right but to be safe i put a .5amp fuse inline with the Constant 12v and ignition 12v. When im listening to really loud music, say, with the volume over 50... it pops the inline fuse going to the constant 12v and the unit shuts off.. is this because the fuse is too small? I used the same size fuses for my last head unit and had no problem, is the newer one just drawing more power? im afraid of blowing up the head unit, as a friend of mine fried his DEH putting it in his s10
happy holidays,

Happy 2006 to all.
Brianritchie21787:
According to your manual, max current consumption is 10 amps.

If all works well at low volumes, the fuses are too small.
Some head units offer larger audio amps than others, therefore using more power also. If you turn the head unit volume up and the unit fries, you had a bad one. You may have problems also if your power and or ground wires are too small, or poorly connected. The only other way you could blow up the head unit is if your alternator has a screwed up voltage regulator outputting too much voltage. |

My last head unit was a crappy 60$ one so the extra draw sort of makes sense
thanks norm, 88delta88

Yes, .5 amps is way to small....my mediocre Aiwa head unit had a 15 amp ATC fuse on the back of it.
