The gas pedal in my Intrigue (3.5) is really stiff, takes a lot of pressure to give it gas...and is somewhat hard to keep a constant speed, unless using cruise control. My mom's Intrigue (3.8) on the other hand has a very soft gas pedal....which is definately much easier on the foot and generally less stressful to drive.

I saw this:

I haven't actually looked at the throttle body on the 3.5L, but is that the solution? Or is there something wrong with my throttle? Having an extension would definately make sense....thinking of a breaker bar. :D

Comments, opinions..?

I didnt check the link yet, but it could be the throttle cable... if it is that stiff, I would definatly be checking it out!

Is the cable worn? kinked? rusted? linkage need to be lubricated? can you use a different spring?

just some thoughts

Hi Brando, hello everyone,

Thanks for the link. My '89 has the same problem. I only drive it 5 or 6 times a year, and fixing it isn't high priority.

Is yours a TBI also?

Regards, Norm

The 3.5 would be EFI. :)

Brando, have you tried oiling the linkage area, springs etc.? I know mine was the exact same way, but I oiled it and it worked great.

3.4? 3.5L...and no, it isn't throttle body injected.

I'll have to take a closer look...haven't really looked in that area of the engine (throttle body).

Yeah, my bad, edited. We were discussing 3.4's on another forum, got confused.

Reread it, then think about it. It loses a lot when it has to be explained.

Norm.

brando - put on one of those big-foot gas pedals. It will weigh the pedal down, so its easier to press... ;-)
