| Howdy to all of my fellow Oldsmobile enthusiasts! I've got to say that my Oldsmobile 88 is the best car I've ever owned! And my company car is a 2006 Cadillac DTS (the GTO I never had as a kid). Back in 1991, I was the district manager for an engineering company in Dallas and I was given a choice of either an Olds 88 or a Chrysler LeBaron. The regional manager didn't want the Oldsmobile because it had crank windows and the LeBaron had electric windows. The LeBaron turned out to be a piece of junk and was sold at auction two years later. In 1995, I had obtained my law degree and the engineering company that I was working for went into bankruptcy. My Oldsmobile had 138,000 miles on it (lots of road trips) and the company sold it to me for $900 (figuring it wouldn't last much longer). Today it has 255,000 miles on it and everything is original except the paint, tires etc. I still use the Oldsmobile to drive to Florida to use a friend's beach house to write my books (first book is "Burlington Northern Adventures:Railroading In the Days of the Caboose www.bnrailstories.com, about my days as a brakeman, conductor and trainmaster in North Dakota). My next book coming out is "Peachtree Hills: Stories of Growing up Southern" and it's a collection of short stories about growing up in small-town Atlanta. Anyway, I drive in the Oldsmobile at least once a month to Destin and it consistently makes 36 miles to the gallon, especially valuable in these days of three dollar per gallon gasoline. I've posted a picture of it -- it still looks brand-new (and drives that way). I love my Oldsmobile almost as much as my 1976 Chevrolet van, which I bought new and after 800,000 miles still has its original 250 in.³ engine and three on the tree transmission. It's special because I lived in it as I worked the brakeman's and conductor's extra board throughout the West. I list both my Oldsmobile and Chevy Van on movie vehicles.com but still waiting on that first part for either vehicle. Speaking of movies, keep an eye out for Heavens Fall, a brand new Timothy Hutton movie also featuring David Strathairn, LeeLee Sobieski, Azura Skye, James Tolkan, Bill Sage, Lew Temple and Bill Smitrovich. I play the part of a disgruntled railroader in 1933 Alabama. Check out my part in www.imdb.com, and pictures of me and various actors on the set at www.brothertonlaw.com. All the best, William |

Hi there. :)
Fantastic car, you got. I'm a railfan myself, too. I live in So Cal close by to a lot of major railroad subdivisions. Every so often, I'd take my Uniden Scanner and my Maxrad 5/8 wave antennae along, and kick-back, sipping a cup of coffee and watch the rail action while I listen to the traffic and mile post detectors. :o I'm planning to take a road trip this summer to New Mexico and I'll be going on I-40 through Barstow and Needles. I hope to catch a lot of rail action there too. ;) |
