I just joined up and I really enjoy looking at all your great photos of your Cars. I have a web site of my own and as of yet I have not added Oldsmobile to it but it is coming. I hope that when I have any Questions regarding the Olds of the 60's or any other years I could could come to you guys and set the record straight. Once again this is a great site and keep up the great work!

Hi Randy_G, hello everyone,

Welcome to TOC.

I would question the accuracy of any information you might get from the internet, but ask away.

In your profile, is "mystery motor" a reference, the "Mk II" that was used in the '63 Nascar series? It's the only "mystery motor" I know about.

Norm,

The car in the photo is a 1954 F-88 Oldsmobile Concept. I termed it a "mystery motor" simply because I haven't reseached what motor was actually put into the concept car by Oldsmobile. I just haven't had the time as of yet, though I do have plans down the road to add pages to my website for concepts and other automobiles of special interest.

I don't own the car (something about it auctioning off at around a million dollars:) ). The enrollment form wouldn't let me just be a fan of Oldsmobile to join your fine forum, so I figured if I was going to fudge about what Olds I owned, I would "own" one of the (in my humble opinion) coolest concept cars that Olds ever designed.

In your reply, you state that you would be wary of any information taken from internet resources. I agree completely. I take everything I get with a Large Grain of Salt, and try to check several sources to verify any and all information received. Do you have resources that you consider more reliable and might recommend, for gleaning knowledge and clearing up discrepancies or inconsistancies? Any sources that you could recommend would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time and help.

Randy

Hi Randy_G, all,

What is the purpose of using colored fonts? Why do you underline words that are not links?

As far as I know, only one existed. It is in a Museum in Colorado. Check here for Barrett-Jacksons version of it's history, and here for it's present home.

Not a mystery. Conventional wisdom says it's a '54 Olds/Hydramatic. It was a design exercise, and the mechanicals (when used) would have been "off the shelf" same as was done with the Corvette.

3 million. Type F88 into the TOC search engine.

Other than my memory? Not many.

For Olds, you could start here. Helen Early's book would be good. There are two other books I can't name at the moment. All three should be available at:

GM Heritage Ctr
6400 Center Dr.
Sterling Heights Mi. 48312-2609
telephone: 586-276-0695
