I have constructed a car out of whatever was laying around, but mostly it is an '83 Cutlass Supreme and pretty much GM. The first engine I came across was a 400 chevy from an early 70s station wagon and put it in 110,000 miles ago after a fresh factory style rebuild.
The engine will need rebuilt soon, the suspension is shot, the doors are beginning to rust out from the bottom and if a feature or part is not absolutely critical for forward travel it does not work.
I love this car more than anything...except mabey my dog.
What I need is information sources to assist me in the restoration project. The first step is the suspension as it is the single most likely factor in my life to end my life. I need detailed descriptions of everything: part names, what they do, how they work, what the upgrade possibilities are. I care not the slightest bit about appearance beyond function and durability. I want to use the best cheapest parts with the primary stipulation that once installed, it last the longest possible time.
And also I need suggestions on a carb that will go on now with the factory build and still be appropriate after a rebuild with the most obvious performance features.
On a side note I would have made a good shaker. I can make no sense of wasting money on appearance items. I am mortified by fools so easily parted from thier money when that money could serve so much better use.
The Johnny cash statement references a song of his that is about a caddy built 'one piece at a time' by an interprising assembly line worker |
