I am the previous owner of a 1990 Touring Sedan that served me very well and I traded it with 222,000 miles, still running great, for my current Aurora.
The Aurora currently has 230,700 miles and, with the Touring Sedan, is one of the two finest cars I have owned. It runs and drives great and even with the occational P0741 TCC tranny code, I anticipate well over 300,000 miles.
Previous notable veicles:
'66 Chevell
'66 T-Bird (very nice car from a lost ford erra)
several bombers of various years that I would rather not talk about
'82? Cadillac Cimarron 4 speed (very fun car)
'84 CK-20 HD pick-up - purchased new
'86 Baby Blazer (also lots of fun) purchased new
'86 Olds Cierra
'90 Pontiac TranPort (great for camping) - purchased new
'90 Olds Touring Sedan (absolutely incredible car but a little underpowered)
'97 Olds Aurora |

I had a '66 SS 396, a few years ago.
Right now, I have a '63 Chevy II, '64 El Camino, and an '87 Regal, but I don't talk about them on an Olds site.
I do, occasionally, talk about my '65 and '70 Cutlasses, and of course my two 88 Coupes.

The '66 Chevelle was my first car; 4 doors and free.
283 ci and powerglide original
then same 283 but another powerglide
then 350/same powerglide
then another powerglide
then 327 w/4 bolt mains and same powerglide
then added 350 heads, holly 650 and TH 350
then I killed it. The final setup was nice while it lasted but the 350 heads were not a good idea.
'Always wanted an ss396 but 16/17 and washin' dishes couldn't cut it. At that time, a friend of mine had a chevy II; I always love the style and proportions of that model.
Talking about that car brings back losta' memories. Thanks Norm.
I learned more from that car than all my other cars combined.

Sorry everyone. In this case I have to violate my own policy, and ask about a Chev.

The "high nickel" corvette 327's did.
I cant verify either with cold hard fact, other than I know the source was knowledgable. (he is a local car buff that runs a little shop behind the shop I work at...) He has it sitting in his shop, I know its a 327, and I know its a 4 bolt, but I cant verify whether or not its "high nickel" or if its in fact out of a vette. |

When I bought the 327 I was told it was a truck motor - It was a looooong time ago and I may have been taken advantage of. No matter though, it was a strong motor.
The 350 heads on the 327 never seamed to draw the fuel properly I guess. Maybe the bore on the 350 heads was too large and compression suffered on the 327 - dunno - but I did put the 327 heads back on resulting in better performance. |

Yes, I was. Thats why I wanted to make sure I didnt portray it like I had one, or knew 100 percent. Thats the main difference between the two situations. (He actually claimed he 'got drunk, and pushed it in the ocean, not knowing what it was worth.') In fact, there was/is still doubt in my mind about it (the 327), but the guy that told me about it is very reputable, at least with everything else. I will try to get more info on it when I see him on Thursday.

Sorry - I have a correction.
I was told by an old friend that the 327 stated above was actually a 307.
does that make more sense now? |

Yes, that explains it. The factory used 327 cranks in 283 blocks to make the 307s they needed.
I can definitely see where the confusion came from.

So basically a 283 bore with a longer stroke? That's it?
How about the valves and cam? |

3⅞ x 4¼ and the smallest valve generic heads they had in the bin at the time. Combustion chamber volume in 350 heads would vary by year of manufacture. The shrouding of 350 valves in the 3⅞ bore might choke it pretty bad, depending which valves and which heads.
I found out what I wanted to know, and I am finished talking Brand X on this site.
If you want to know about Olds, be my guest. |

Hi all,
Last night, I noticed my '65 was back on the home page. Looks like someone took his pix and went home. I was going to do this in a couple of days, anyway.

Andrew: sorry about the "off the wall" answer, but I needed to get you off the subject.
I was not challenging him, because I had no reason to. I asked the question only to see if his reaction would be the one I expected.

No problem with that.

That should be the end of it, right?

That, everyone, is paranoia at it's finest.

And now everyone has.
