| I just bougt a 1988 Delta today for 500.00 This might just be temporary, I plan on using the car a as winter beater, but I actually do like the beast. However, I took am having a problem with the wiring for the stereo. The stereo is a Kenwood Excelon. I wired the Constant and the 12V together, Afrter I had everything wired (I thought) there was 4 grey wires left over, and then when I turned the key, The stereo came on for a few seconds, and then shut off. I turned it back on and same thing, it stayed on for a few seconds, then shut off again. What am I doing wrong? The factory worked fine. |

Thanks to my mistake a while back of not using a wiring kit and spliced everything, I got ahold of a wiring diagram thanks to Brando. Here is the power side of it to get you started:
Constant 12V+ - Orange
Switched 12V+ - Yellow
Ground - Black
Illumination - Gray
Dimmer - Brown
Antenna Trigger - Pink
Antenna - Right Front
Now, if you're still having problems, then it might be something else wrong. Most head-units don't use the illumination or dimmer wires, you can just cut them off and tape them. |

Say what?
Everyone I've used so far does (have an illumination wire)...
Except for the older el cheapo Aiwa.
What is the model number on the Kenwood? Is it brand new? Did you have it installed in a previous car and functioning ok?

Yes, the stereo was in my Saturn SL2 and it worked fine then. Last night I started thinking though, my brother took the dash out for me and disconnected all of the wires. And I I cut all of the wires, and remebered cutting the wires for the cigarette lighter...I was using wires from that to wire the stereo. IO bought a wire harness tonight, but I want to try getting around usoing it now that I thought of what the problem is... |

| the problem turned out to be with the right rear speaker. The wires were touching, causing the stereo to over-load and go into protection mode. Got it working, but I ddint feel like dealing with the speakers tonight, so I will get to that tomorrow. I have the Directed Extreams from my Saturn to try to fit in to the rear. I know it wont work, so I will head to the Stereo Shop tomorrow to get something to fit the Olds. |
