A about a month and a half ago I had my car tuned up at the local autoshop. I noticed today flipping through my owners manual that my engine takes R45TS8 or equivalent spark plugs. When I looked on my tune-up receipt it shows they installed R45TSX plugs. (these are plugs for an 84 V6; mine is an 83) Is there a chance these are equivalent plugs or should I be taking my car back to the shop?

Thanks for your help,
Sean

Here is a link to AC Delco's site...

Hopefully this will help.

Thanks for the link. According to that website I can see what the R45TS stands for, but there is nothing telling you what the "X" means. The "8" at the end of R45TS8 means .08 inch gap(or 2mm).

Now that I look again, I notice that too... I am assuming it is "XL" minus what the "L" shares in common with it. Which means X stands for "fully threaded"?

I called partsource and they said they don't make those plugs with .08 inch gap anymore, and the R45TSX is the same plug with a .06 inch gap and my car has switched to that.
what's the significance of the difference in gap?

The reason they dropped that PN was lack of demand. It was easily accomplished by crossing it to another PN that can be readily adapted to the R45TS8 specs by the installer.

The specified gap for your engine is still .080". Instead of gapping them at .060", your shop would have used the correct .080" dimension.
