The suspension on my Cutlass is shot, or at least I believe it is. You can littraly feel every little crack in the road. So I want to replace my shocks, maybe even the springs.
But I would like a real smooth ride, kinda like the early 90s Caprices had with the straight springs. Nice and smooth "boat like" ride. How can I achieve that. And will anything suffer performance wise with a suspension like that? |

Out of all the vehicles I've done shocks or struts on, Monroe sensatrac has given me the best ride, for the price. Since then, maybe something better has come along.
Have you thought about replacing the springs with airbags? From what I hear, air suspension is the best ride around, and fully adjustable to boot. |

What leads you to believe there is anything wrong with it? Do you know how it rode when it was new? Do you know how it should ride now?

Without checking them? You might already have some "high dollar" sport shocks. They could cause the ride you describe.

A little premature, since you have no idea what your goal is.

Buy an early '90s Caprice.

Yes. Any time you discuss performance vs comfort, you are talking trade offs.
