How can you find out which wire is the negative and which is the positive if there is no color coding on the wire?

Are you talking about a radio harness or...? The wires aren't different colors?

If its a battery cable, the one that goes to ground is the negative, the one that goes to the starter solenoid is positive.

I would invest in an inexpensive test light. Might save you a load of trouble

Sorry for being vague. It is the Rear speaker wire in my 83 cutlass. There is a light blue and a slightly darker blue wire. There was a factory plug they were connected to but no markings whatsoever on the speaker or the wire saying which one is negative(or positive). They are now connected to some new eclipse speakers but didnt know which was negative and which was positve. I tried switching the wires, but I couldnt here a different in sound quality. Still, I want them to be hooked up properly.

Left Rear (+) Brown
Left Rear (-) Yellow
Right Rear (+) Dark Blue
Right Rear (-) Light Blue
