Hmm...why are you splicing it again? Solder would be best, and a little butane torch would make quick work of it. But I don't see the need to splice it if you're just running it through the firewall...

the problem is that i only have 17 feet of cable that came with the amp kit. This was just enough to make a straight line from the battery to the trunk, but unfortunately, i could not find a hole in the firewall to put the wire through, so the wire goes up the side of the engine compartment and over the door hinges and then inside the passenger compartment. With the extra length from the new cable, i'll be able to go from the battery to the driver side where there are many more openings, and back into the passenger compartment.

i found a copper tube that just barley slid over the wires, I crimped both sides together and made a rubber sleeve to fit and taped it up

another update here:

i took the new 8awg wire i got off eBay and went out to my car to try and fix my wire issues once and for all. After removing some of the carpet and padding on the driver side, i located 2 grommets that i could possibly slip the wires through. I tried finessing the wire through them but it was just too tight and there was way too much stuff around the areas to work with. It took me about 15 minutes to notice that there was a square cut out on the floor padding to the left of the gas pedal. I pulled out the cube of padding and it exposed about a 2x2in square of the firewall. i looked on the engine side and it seemed like a perfect place so i got out a drill and made a hole.

I'm wondering if GM put that little area there on purpose. that spot also has a depression in the metal. Hmm it worked perfectly though. I ran the new wire from the fuse into the car through the new hole and cut it. I took the old wire, and brought what was going over the door back inside and connected the two wires. That was the hardest part. Soldering took about 15 minutes and it got really ugly, but i just wrapped it up in electrical tape and put the floor back down and everything is working great. No more 'over the door action'. Not to mention, it gave the amp a little more room to play with in the trunk.
