i dont want to sound like a ass but the aluminum pipe heat soaks realy really bad one of the best results i had was cutting th aluminum off right at the bend and jamming a PVC pipe over it it also accepts a 3.5inch folter and has a bigger I.D than the pipe and resists heat alot better than the aluminum just my 02.

What about buying a roll of that reflective foam insulator tape, and applying it to the intake? I saw a roll at canadian tire the other day and thats the first idea that popped into my mind. It was about $12, but one roll would do.

But, If you're going to that extent, you may want to also think about sealing your filter pick-up area from the ambient area of the engine compartment, and make it a TRUE cold air intake.

Interesting. Where does the air intake go in that first picture? Did you cut a hole in the frame or something?

88delta88; i kind of understand what you mean when you say seal it off, but how can you seal it and still get cool air to it. are there kits or adapters or something?

i relocated the factory Evap canister the filter sits flush to the opening so it dosent suck in water in the heavist of conditions it draws nothing but cool air from the bumper and under the fender. The TB in the first pic is standard series one but i shaved any "flat" areas to be more efficent and less turbulent pulling in air. Everything else is custom i dont run a TB maf i cut that whole structure out polished everything and halfshafted the TB the stock series 1 TB is 3' inlet with a 2 1/4 throttle plate the l36 TB is 3 1/2 inlet with a 2 1/5 throttle plate. The maf i use is the standard northstar MAF which is 3 1/2 .

I am not sure... If K&N has a true cold air intake for this car, that would be a good thing to take a look at. 91parkave's intake setup looks great, if you dont mind moving the evap canister.

K&N dosent make a kit for our cars even if they did it'd be to pricey anyway, as mentioned above i had the best experience with the PVC pipe setup and using a 3.5 inch filter. Ive used the cold air box' before but didnt notice a bit of diffrence. With people using the aluminum intakes your prone to heat soak anyway heat shield or not, it wont make a diffrence people with the composite upper intakes have a better chance using a cold air intake.

Maybe a dumb question: what is an evap canister? emission control?

i didnt notice anything in that area when i installed my cai. ill take a look tomorrow. I like the idea of the intake being separated from the engine compartment. Seems like it should have always been that way.

as for the tb... way out of my league.

on a side note, i hit 100 in my car today for the first time, i've never done that before without having the pedal on the floor. it was a casual cruise actually. Im assuming i can contribute the feat to the cai or the 93 octane i started using recently.

Depending who you talk to, I sound like an azz all the time.

Explain how that affects the air that's moving thru it.

How much HP/ET/MPH did you gain?

Silicone, weatherstripping, or caulking?

88delta88 wrote: ........ 91parkave's intake setup looks great ........
Looks, kind of like, a plumber put it together.

I think I would have worked with this design, as it had the most potential.

But, I don't do show cars.

well..if you dont have the brain capacity to know that aluminum does heat soak theres no need in explaining the aspect of that. as for my work i dont give a shit if you think it looks good or how functional you think it might be for simple intake and exaust mods ive made so far im running 15.097'sPB in N/a form with 2.83 stock gears with a engine with over 200,000 miles on it. I dont even have a decent tune to fully exploit my mods. so until you come out with something better you can kiss my ass

im not sure, but i think by 'sealing' we're talking about separating the intake system from the engine compartment, so that actual cold air is used instead of the hot, dirty air off the engine block and what not.

91parkave, it doesnt matter how 'plumber like' your stuff looks like, i bet it works pretty well. Not to mention, nothing can be more bootleg than the drier duct mod i had for my car :P

If you do not wish to discuss your own statement, why would you bother to post it on a discussion board?

Your explanation would have been for those TOC members that do not know, but might be interested.

However, it is not what I asked you to explain.

It's commonly used on dragstrips, dry lakes, and salt flats. Don't knock what works.

If you look below my headlights, you'll see the openings for my CAI / Ram intake system.
