Think of a aluminum water pipe if i torch the pipe constantly the water going through it will be at a higher temp same thing with airflow-hot pipe hot air. If youre only drag racing its not a issue but for a daily driver it is. thus the term "heat soak" |

What is the wall thickness, diameter, and length of the pipe?
How much heat, and how much area is it being applied to?
How many CFM is the water moving? At what pressure?
What is the actual change in water temp?
How would your analogy compare to the heat transfer seen in an automotive cooling system?

your local home depot sells sections of PVC piping you can make one using that, or pepboys sells sections of intake tubing for anything custom

Your half right.....water is more dence than air, the rate at which the air is moving through an engine is far faster than water could, so that isn't a very good comparison between a water heater, and a space heater because the space heater is creating temps far above any engine would see just to heat the air enough to fill the room... lol, no offence....
Using things like that metal flex tubing isnt as effective to draw the air through because the bumps inside the pipe are creating turbulance, but it does well with guiding outside air being blown through it.... the duration of time it takes for the air to flow through an airfilter, through the intake, throttlebody, manifold, and finally to the heads, the air doesn't have too much time to heat up....reguardless of "heatsoak"....the term is typically a danger when dealing with forced induction and not N/A cars....
Besides that, the computer adjusts timing and fuel based on the temp of the air flowing through it so i wouldnt worry too much about it....you will see gains in power and responce based on the temp or the air going through it, which is why CAI's typicaly make more power, but typicaly you see gains at higher RPM's due to the longer pipes required than a WAI or "short ram intake" |

That is what 91buickman said, at the top of page three. Not one of the two (or three?) times he was correct.
