Hi everyone I drive a 1986 olds with a 307 that has 7A heads (supposedly made 140 HP when it came out) and I was thinking of putting an electric fan on it ( claims to give better throttle respnse and more mpg). My question is What would be the right cfm rating for the engine not to overheat?
Or I dont know if anyone here has tried electric fans but if anyone has, do you think it would be more beneficial to go with dual exhaust (MPG and throttle response) instead? |

Are you talking about "electric superchargers"? Or are you talking about a different carburetor, with an electric rad fan? |

Since there are no set standards in this area, the best you can do is to, follow the manufacturers recommendations.

If there is any gain, it will not be enough to measure. Simply put: A waste of time and money.

Emissions considerations aside, and assuming the computer can compensate for the change in fuel mixture requirements: Under normal driving conditions, payback in MPG on the $ investment will take years.
Depending on your definition of throttle response, you might see a minimal, or significant, improvement.

| Where can I get the manufacturer specs for the electric fans? well, as for the gas mileage, Im not really looking for it, but it's a plus and for Throttle response (how quick my car reaches certain speeds), I dont know what I can get to improve it, these were just 2 ideas. My cars throttle response is horrible (Just last week I got beat by a cavalier and a sable :blush: ,) what would you suggest is the best bang for buck to help my car's throttle response(My Budget is around 200$). |

Normal definition of "throttle response" is how the engine reacts with the trans in neutral/park.

From the manufacturer? Google is your friend.

Depending on your neighborhood, that should almost cover the price of a dual exhaust system.
For about triple that, a change to a limited slip differential with a lower rear end ratio with, would give you the biggest return.

The dual electric fans out of a 4th gen F-body with the LT1 engine ('93-'97) work perfectly in a G-body. The size is spot on. All you need is a thermal controller and fabricate a couple of brackets to hold the top of the fans to the radiator.
For the controller I used a Perma-cool setup with a sensor that I screwed into one of the front intake water ports on my 455. It has an electronic box you can then mount on the fender to control at what temp the fans turn on at.
That being said, your not going to notice a huge difference in power. My 455 reved easier but it didn't necessarily give it any more throttle response. As for fuel mileage, I have no idea. It wasn't enough that I was able to notice. The problem you may have is finding a place on the intake manifold to mount a thermal sensor. Assuming you still have all of the emissions/computer, etc in place. |
