I want to put an L67 into my 87 cutlass ciera.
It currently has a 3.8 sfi (LG3)
200lbs of torque just isn't doing it for me anymore.

Does anyone have experience with this swap?
I'd love to know ALL of the details/problems/solutions before I start.

i know its a little late to reply but if you want the l67 youneed the trans to after that its a matter of wiring and maybe a couple of engine mount modifacations. wiring however is the biggest challenge because youre also converting to obd 2 is it worth it  nah you have a lg3 youre better off stealing grand national parts and engine mgmt. and getting your stock tranny a performance rebuild. at least youll start off witharound 250-300 WHP compared to the more gas guzzling l67 with 210whp

Are there any parts that interchange between the GN and his LG3?

pretty much everything minus the headers only because they run under the engine in the GN. but intake mani's cylinder heads and such are direct bolt on's

Ehm, I really don't think the LG3 and the GN motors are that interchangeable. IIRC the GN motor has forged parts, I could be wrong. Not to mention a few odds and ends that would slow things down.

And the L67 is not a gas guzzler compared to the GN and GNX's engine. Stay outta the boost on anything and you can have decent mileage.

A LG3 to a L67 is not THAT bad, and is only a couple splices for wiring. Main thing is mounting and getting the axles to line up.

I wonder if this is the case, why I havent seen more of this type of thing done. Likely because its not as simple as even the L67 swap sounds.

turbocharged400sbc, where are you??? :-) Are the LG3 and GN's blocks similar besides displacement?

no GM didnt put forged internals into the GN maybe just maybe the GNX but the Gn's no.... nobody does this because of the inability to fond the trans to suit this application. If you can build the 4t40 to handle 335lb ft of tourqe then cool but your droppin alof of money into a pretty old FWD car like that well.....as for parts interchange yes the buick GN is the same engine code LG3. Honestly its got to be worth it to the owner of the car IMO im sorry i just dont believe in taking power tomake power l67's turbo motors have no parasitic loss compared to them and when sized properly boost lag isnt a issue.

i didnt see any hard evidence proving GN parts dont fit theres a guy on bonneville club who has all the info for that as for the diffrences between motors i believe the crank and maybe the pistons are diffrent but thats it IIRC.

He could not have been any more clear.

Since there was no quote enclosed, his response was to the previous post. Which, by no coincidence, was yours.

I have.

Been going there for almost 3 years. Been a member for 2 of them.

Read it again.

No one disputed your information. You volunteered an internet source, but, you did not post the link.

91Buickman wrote: ........ therefore you should ........

The protocol is very simple. If you cite a source, you post a link to it.

Since, you cannot post the Username of your source, or the URL of the thread, you have have no proof of anything.

Thread Title stated the specific goal.

OP was/is looking for someone who has had actual experience with this particular transplant.

Odds are, the OP already knew that much.
