Hey guys, sorry for the long absence. Thought I'd poke in again.

I'm planning on hollowing out the catalytic converter on my Cutlass.

My reason is simple: Noise.
This car is as quiet as a mouse.
Even with my muffler gone, my dad's straight four, stock Hyndai is louder!
This will not do, I have a two hundred and sixty litre V8 banger, and I want people to know it!

I'm aware though, and really don't give a damn about the following;
Legality
Pollution
Will need to be replaced before inspection

However, are there any drawbacks (other than the ones I mentioned above) to doing such a thing? I'd just like some opinions.

Also, it needs a new catalytic converter anyway, I might as well have some fun for a year or two before inspection. By then I'll have the money for a decent one. I just put two ball-joints and tie-rods in this thing.

Thanks guys.

Replace the cat with a piece of pipe, with muffler clamps. You may need to put a muffler back on, though, as this will be a straight piped system...

If all goes well, the exhaust gases will be making it to the muffler.

First plan of action, being that this converter is so old and rust-welded on;

We're able to get it off the pipes, and out from under the car, do our thing, and put it back no problem. Which will be utilizing the muffler.

I think if it comes to plan B, I will do what 88Delta said, just cut the thing off and replace with pipe/muffler clamps.

:D Its gonna (better be) loud.

Scheduled this for tomorrow, I'm friends with some mechanics who've said they'd help me out.

I picked up a nice videocamera too, so I'll get some videos of Before/After for you guys.
