Upper is 70 ft lbs
Lower is 80 ft lbs

| Torque at ride height otherwise it may put the suspension in a bind. |

I'll need to check for sure. What is an FSM? I have a CSM (Chassis Service Manual) for my '87 and an '84. I know the fronts require you to have all of the weight of the vehicle on the suspension before fulling torquing the bolts. Same with the rear if your using polyurethane (or you at least jack the rear up close to ride height).
I'll check the CSM and see what it says for sure. Its typically something I do no matter what as a precautionary measure. These converging 4 links ride like absolute crap if you put them in a bind. :( |

Yea, the FSM (Factory Service Manual) says to tighten pivots bolts with vehicle on ground and at curb height.

I was just thinking, 2 of the upper control arm bolts, I noticed the nuts on them are up behind in an area that is barely accessible even with the car on blocks.
so I was wondering, would it work, if I had the weight of the rear of the car resting on jack stands? |

According to my 1987 CSM:
Upper control arm
"Installation:
To install, reverse removal procedure. Torque nuts to specifications with car resting at normal trim height..."
Lower Control arms
"Installation:
To replace arm, reverse the removal sequence of operations. Torque arm attaching nuts to specifications with weight of the car on the rear springs."
I take this as for the uppers, you can leave the car on the jack stands but you must jack the rear end up to its approximate ride height and then torque down the bolts. Where as the lowers need to have the weight of the car rest on the ground before they are torqued.
Is this the way everyone else reads it? Although then back in the torque specs page it has an asterisk next to the control arms specs that says "Torque with weight of car on wheels" |

the upper control arm bolts that attach to the axle housing, I could easily access on the ground. it is the nuts, on the other 2 upper arm bolts that I could not get to, if it were on it's wheels.
the lower arms won't be a problem to get to once it's resting on it's wheels. |
