Hey everybody. I have a 1996 oldsmobile aurora with the 4.0L of course. I topped it out the other day. Yes I hit the 146.5 mph mark where the computer says f@k U! I'm not going any faster. Any Ideas on how to get rid of the Top Speed Limiter?
I had Thought maybe there may be a wire going to the fuel pump that cuts it off if you hit too high a speed, or maybe I could hook up a switch between the speed sensor(in the trans) and the computer to turn off the Top speed limiter, because if the computer can't tell how fast its going then it shouldn't be able to shut it off. What do ya think? 146.5 is not fast enough, it is but I can't stand the thought of knowing the car will pull a lot more and it's not able to cause of a stupid computer. |

| My top speed is between 105 and 110. You have a good top speed; why do you need more? |

x2
You can't program/tune the '96+ PCM
End of discussion. It just won't happen.
This is for the '95's ONLY

The computer does not limit the speed with the fuel pump...

Unless you somehow "simulated" a speed sensor pulse, the engine would throw a code, and likely cause other undesirable effects. The computer needs to know the speed of the car for proper operation. |

I have been reading about a specific Corsa exhaust system built specifically for the 4.0L. It's either really expensive or really limited production because I don't think they are easy to get |

Well even if I am stuck with the Top speed limiter I guess I can live with it. I'll try the toggle on the speed sensor and let ya'll know how everything goes.
Yeah the car sounds really good with the thrush on it. Yeah I don't have a clue where to get corsa's, and they are expensive as hell i believe. Throw on a set of thrush and you will be more than happy. |

| I seriously doubt that will work. I can't tell you for sure because I have never worked on a 4.0L with a pooched sensor, but I know it can do a few things. Also, you probably will have to disable all wheel sensors so the PCM has absolutley NO idea what speed you are going. Of course then your ABS won't work, Your engine will throw a code, and your transmission will probably go into limp mode. As far as I know, you will have to reprogram the PCM in order to get rid of the top speed limiter. OBD2 is much more complicated than OBD1 systems. You usually can't just go and just disable something. Those speed sensors are critical for your vehicle to work properly, so If you get rid of them, it doesn't know what the heck to do. |
