I was reading some posts on people that were inquiring on performance parts, and some of the members there were saying "Stay the hell away from Mondello".

So....I was wondering, what's the deal with them? Why do they have a bad name? I went to there site and they seem to have some nice stuff there...

From what I understand they throw alot of bull out there and don't seem to know that much about Olds. I haven't met a person yet that swears by them but I met plenty of people that hate them

"ahhh young grasshopper...listen and we shall teach you the ways of Olds high performance..." 8)

Anyways, For YEARS Mondello was THE guy to go to for Olds performance stuff. However, Joe sold out or left the business to a guy named Lynn Welfringer(sp)...since then the customer service as well as support has dropped thru the floor and into the basement, so to speak. The majority of the parts offered by Mondello are manufactured by someone else and relabeled with the Mondello name...there are MANY people who have been screwed to the tune of SEVERAL thousand dollars..they do offer some nice stuff, however, many of the same or better parts can be bought cheaper thru other manufacturers, as well as several different places that specialize in Olds performance..I personally know 2 people who got ROYALLY screwed by them..one in the same town as me, who doesn't have the internet, and didn't realize there was another place here in Wis. who specializes in Olds...he bought several thousand dollars worth of parts from Mondello...many of which either were wrong, or he didn't really need..the other, who spent upwards of $30,000 ( thats right...30 THOUSAND) dollars for a professionally built engine from them that ran like total ass...tore the motor down and changed a BUNCH of stuff...there were 2 of these $30,000 engines built..the other resides in a car in PA, I believe...that car ran in the mid 11 sec range...now, if you figure you can build a short block diesel (DX) stroker without heads, cam, intake, and accessories for about $4500, heads figure aluminum at $2500-3000 with porting, roller cam $600-800, intake $400, carb, ignition, accessories and etc say $1500 on the high side, you'd have a motor capable of 10's easily and possibly 9's with spray for the $10-15,000 range... and this $30,000 motor turns 11's  would you be pissed??? Now do you understand why Mondello is so hated by the Olds racing community at large, Brando? :D
