| just do the basics, increase air flow. and i'm not talking about a silly "cold air induction", i mean a new intake manifold. this might not be easy considering you have an electronic carburator. a true dual exhaust would help a bit. and maybe an ignition upgrade to a high power MSD coil. just a few ideas. |

If its dieseling, on those 80's V8's, it usually means that you're idle is too high, or you are running too rich. Adjust your idle mixture so that it runs smooth enough to get the idle down to a crawl. I think 550RPM is around what you want. At that idle, it wont keep running after you shut it off.
I had an 84 caprice that would run-on after you shut it off, and sometimes it would even go for like 30 seconds... My idle was too high, and my idle mixture was too rich to get the idle down low enough. |

As long as your 307 is a non-roller you can do a few performance modifications. If it was the roller 307 with 7A heads your pretty much stuck because no aftermarket intakes will work unless you do a head swap.
Don't bother with performance computer chips. Been there done that and they don't do anything for the CCC 307. I used a Hypertech Thermomaster chip in my old 307 and I think it actually slowed the thing down.
Since the computer doesn't control the carb at WOT there's not much for the chip to do other than adjust your timing a bit.
Some basics I would do is make sure its in good basic tune.
Check your initial timing with a timing light. I found that on my 307 it had been off by 12*! When I set the timing to 20* I found a lot more power (for a 307) than I had before. It felt like a totally different engine.
The timing could also help get rid of the dieseling.
You can play with the secondary rods on the Q-jet also. They are usually very lean and by swapping in another set you can help richen things up. You can also modify the secondary air doors on the CCC Q-jet so they open up further. From the factory they limit the 750/800cfm Q-jet to just 595cfm or so. By modifying them for full operation you'll gain more airflow.
Headers and dual exhaust will help but just don't go too big. 2.25" exhaust should be plenty for a 307.
Of course steeper rear gears would help also if you wanted to go that far too. 3.42's or 3.73's would really help get the big car moving.
The above information is mostly gained from the G-body 307's and I am unfamiliar with whether or not the same exact 307's were used in the B-body's. I would assume so but you never know.

If you want to go faster I would highly suggest looking into a another small block olds. A olds 350 or 403 would drop right in and use all the same parts, its about as straight forward engine swap as its going to get.
If your intent on keeping the 307 find your self a set of 5A heads (they came on 442s, Hurstolds, and a few cutlasses, also known as Vin 9 engine), then get a Edlebrock performer intake and I think the biggest cam you can use with out messing up the computer is a 204/214 cam. Then get a set of headers and a high flow cat and split that into 2 1/2" dual exhaust, and your car would move a whole lot faster.
A good set of rear gears will make the biggest difference in your car's performance, I'm guessing you most likely have a set of 2.41s, 2.56s, or 2.73s. If you have a 3 speed I would go to a set of 3.23s or at max 3.42s, if you have the 4 speed over drive I would go with 3.73s, 3.90s, or max 4.11s. Changing from a 2.56 (most Olds had these I believe) to 3.42s or 3.73 would feel like adding 50 hp to you motor. Thats how big a difference it could have.
Oh and BigBlock, I did some research and found that most if not all Delta 88s came with the vin Y 307 |

| c_creations, you should flip your air cleaner over... You'll get a meaner sounding growl and you might see a small gain. But why do you need to gain so much power if you've already got enough to blow away saleen mustangs? |

| Not you filter itself, the round lid that goes on top of the filter. If you turn it upside down, and put the wingnut back on it, it will expose the air filter, and air can freely enter the carb without going through the restrictive stock air intake. This is not great in cold winter conditions or in really wet conditions as i found out... |

| thats kewl when it worms up ill have to try it because im up in SD so its so cold. can you like hook up your own plumbing instead of the tiny intake. or could you get rid of the filter pan assembly and just get a lid because some filters are just bare and dont have a pan that there in. could you do that? |
