My dad was taking his 98 volvo S70 out the other night and he backed it out of the garage to have it stall a few feet down the driveway. When he started it up again, it would stall a few seconds later. He said the transmission light came on when he turned it on. I went to take a look at it today, and it wouldnt turn over so i popped the hood and took a general look at everything then when i took the oil dipstick out, this is what i found.
that Cant be good....
last oil change was 2000 miles ago from what i understand. after wiping off the sludge on the dipstick i put it back in and the oil (or whatever it is) barely touches the end of the dipstick.
Theres no oil stains on the driveway or garage, and i assume if the engine was burning 6 quarts of oil there would be a significant indicator...right?
I dunno how long hes been driving on sludge like that...if i throw some oil in there would it be ok? or should i take it to a mechanic? |

That looks pretty bad, notice any coolant missing? |

Well, whatever you do, do not put oil in it and continue to drive it, even though damage has probably already been done. Best bet would to take it to a reputable Volvo repair center. Those things can be complicated on newer cars.
Did you check the condition of the coolant? |
