|

First of all, I'm sorry if the answer to this one is the same as an earlier post, but I wanted to be sure.
Last night, after driving into town, the blower in our 91 Olds 98 (I so do love that name :P ) kicked on, and absolutely refused to shut off. Even after shutting the engine off, and removing the key. We finally got it off by unhooking the battery, but I was wondering what could be done to keep this problem from coming back - or at least knowing what to do about it should it happen again. (We haven't yet tried reconnecting the battery, since we don't have anywhere to go today.)
I haven't been able to find any clear-cut answers, everything I've found thusfar has been mixed to say the least - from removing a fan relay, to the blower resistor, to the entire fan control unit.
Hopefully this is only a little more difficult to fix than our last problem, which turned out to be pennies in the cigarette lighter. (It's amazing what a little short can do to a battery...)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and, uh, hi. I'm new to the board. :P |

Welcome to TOC.
You have a short to a constant 12V power source. This could be in the switch, or in the wiring harness. I would take a test light, and/or multimeter and check out the switch and the harness to the fan motor.

Well, now I'm going to sound pretty dense - but I don't have access to a Chilton's manual. (I know, always good to have one) - but with situations around here that happened I can't get into, a lot of our maitainence materials and such were... liberated.
Can I possibly get a general description of where on the harness and where the blasted switch is. (Though I didn't get a good look around under the hood last night with a flickering flashlight in the dark.) |
