My 88 delta 88 died, with no advance warning, just died.
My mechanic tested it (I guess) and thought the problem was the ignition .
It wasn't and he has told me someone with better testing abilities needs to check it out.
I secured a code 26 from the emc. Now how should I proceed? |

Code 26 is "quad driver module" which is a fancy name for a series of 4 on/off switches that are monitored by the ECM.
This means that one of the switches the ECM is monitoring is not producing an expected value. This could be because one of the 4 switches is bad, or because the ECM is bad. Is code 26 the only code that comes up in the cycle, or are there others?
If you are not mechanically inclined, or don't have a solid understanding about how electrical systems work, I would take it to a qualified shop. Otherwise you will need a factory service manual (FSM) so that you can follow the recommended testing procedure, and a good Multimeter to test the circuits.
I am away from home now, or I could probably be a little more help-

Andrew:
Thanks for the info.
I learned that there are four(4) switches but I have no skills re: auto mechanics.
I will take it to a shop that can test the switches and the emc.

Clean your key contacts with a rubber pencil eraser, I had same thing and this cured it

If the contacts were the problem, the ECM would not store a code related to the quad driver.
In diagnosing a problem, especially over the internet, it is best to figure out the problem first, and then try to fix the issue systematically, instead of just trying random things, and hope it works. Since there are so many different possibilities, there is no one "magic" fix.
