The original specs

Current specs:
Sonnet Crescendo 1Ghz G4 Upgrade (256KB L2 and 2MB L3 cache)
1GB of RAM (8 sticks of 128MB - maxed out)
ATI Radeon 7000 PCI Video Card
Sonnet Tempo Trio ATA133, USB, and Firewire PCI Card
Western Digital 160GB IDE Hard Drive
Pioneer DVR-115D DVD-RW IDE Drive
Running MacOS X 10.4.11 (Tiger)

Runs surprisingly well...at first it was running real slow, but I found out the old ADB mouse connected into the ADB keyboard was causing it to freeze up. I hooked up a USB mouse from an older iMac that I had laying around (as well as a USB Macally keyboard), and now it's faster than ever. MacOS X is a pretty cool OS. I can network and access files from my Windows PC no problem...which surprised me quite a bit.

I absolutely despise MacOS 9.

I don't know how you did that, but the inner geek is strong with this one; in a good way though

I had one with the original specs waay back and we thought that thing was the shiznit (we said that in the 90's...)

That is pretty sweet! I used to have a performa that had similar original specs... It was top of the line when we bought it, and about 2 weeks later the Pentium II came out, and the dot.com boom began...

Did you upgrade the original Mobo?

Screenshot:

It still has the original motherboard, 50Mhz bus on the system RAM is somewhat limiting, but it works very well for browsing the internet, word processing (installed Office 2008), and just exploring the wonders of MacOS X

I've read that the G3 beige desktop motherboards will swap right in, but it only upgrades it to a 60Mhz bus, the processor upgrades for those mobos equal MUCHO DOLLARS. This upgrade card was $100 even, the upgrade card with the same specs for the beige G3 mobo is $300
Scored the 1GB of ram off of ebay for about $50. I got the PM7500 for free when I was volunteering for the local Recycling center quite a few years ago (2003?), it came in it's original box, with monitor, mouse, keyboard, software...it had it all and I claimed it before it even came off the truck  I had previously installed MacOS 8.6 on it, 72MB of RAM, and that was it...had it in the closet until now.

I also have a Performa 6400/180...which is somewhat cool, but not as upgradeable as the 7500...and installing MacOS X on it is questionable. Also have a Performa 637CD (not worth much at all....) and a Performa 6115CD...NuBus based mac...it also is somewhat upgradeable (G3), but you can't install MacOS X on the NuBus based macs.

So this is my main Mac now...it amazes me how this computer from 1995 is still running so well
