slightly off topic but does GM in general have problems with the trunk leaking? almost Every GM car that had a leak was always on the right side...

What does this have to do with the topic at all? This should be posted in a new post.

91parkave wrote: The comment was made because you mentioned earlier about having the weatherstripping replaced in the trunk area, i was asking if you had a leak and if it was on the right side of the trunk or not? just a simple question, that runs along with your post. so yes it has plenty to do with the "topic"

My trunk weatherstriping was replaced because it was damaged (torn etc) from years of use. My aunt/uncle who gave me the car lived in a town where there was no trash pick up so they had to bring garbage to the town dump. Over years of this use, the weatherstriping had been damaged for large objects being taken in and out.

91: Post what your trunk is doing here, Ive had to deal with leaky trunks before, and some ideas as to what type of leak this is may help find yours. I posted a new topic so that others who search the site for information, etc will find it easier to find.

Simple fix: Replace the whole damned thing. I replaced the window seals on my Cutlass last year, awesome company, reasonable prices, would buy from again.

1) Rear window seal. At the bottom, between the rubber and the glass.
2) Antenna. Make sure the drain hose is intact.
3) Tail/side marker lights.

I'll bet on the antenna.

The C and H body cars are known to rot around the rear wheel wells, which will cause a leak. Remove all of the carpeting and look around the wheel wells inside the trunk. They typically start to rot around the top of the wheel well (there is a seam there) and then going down towards the back of the rear seats. I had this issue with 2 GM cars and both times repaired it with some fiberglass. When you do check for this look for 2 clues, mold on the back side of the carpeting along the wheel wells, and rust along the sides of the trunk interior. Both are classic signs of the wheel well rot.

thanks 85ciera for that, I never thought to check that area, ill also check the rear window seal at the bottom, when i lift my trunk the underside of the lid will be wet close to the center but to the right side the stripping is always dry on the inside and where it contacts the trunklid. but ph well when i have time ill check both of these areas, in the mean time i have to finish my LS-1 retrofit in a 70 tempest  thanks,
