I was in my car today and i rolled up to a drive through window and turned the volume down on my system, when i rolled out the headunit was off and would not turn back on. when i got home i turned the car off and back on, and when the car turned back on, there was a weird tone that sounded about 5 times then faded off. the headunit never turned back on either. i pulled it out and all the wires were connected...
any one know what's going on? |

check your fuses, theres one on the back of the head unit and one probably labeled as "radio" behind your fuse panel.
Also check the ground connection at both points (where it connects to the harness and whatever its actually grounded to) and make sure its tight. |

| i just figured out that the weird tone is actually the car-on/seatbelt-not on sound...for some reason, its extremely distorted.... the fuse in the head unit is fine, the ground connection from the headunit is in the harness, so i assume its fine...not too sure how id find out where the ground goes from there though. |

| have you checked all the maxi fuses under the hood yet? also are/were there any burn smells? check that power wire you have running through the door ja,b and make sure the insulation is intact. |

i didnt smell anything. i moved that power cable through the firewall in the fall, but, ill give it a check too.
what would cause the seatbelt tone to change? thats so strange... |

yeah i blew a fuse.....now i just need to figure out why.
how can i do this...do i need to check every connection at every speaker? |

ok so i had some time today so i checked out the proble. the 15amp radio fuse blew.
when i pulled the headunit out, the negative front left speaker wire from the headunit to the harness was uncovered where i soldered it, so i assumed thats where the shortout was, so i taped it up and made sure all the connections were covered, and i went to put a new fuse in and that blew as soon as i put it in.
so i popped the hood, and made sure the wire from the battery to the amp wasn't being pinched anywhere, and it seemed fine. all the connections around the amp seemed fine, but something i did noticed is that my right rear wheel well was corroded almost all the way through. so every time i drove my car in the snow or rain, there was moisture getting into my trunk
but i checked all the connections and they seem fine.
whats my next step? |
