I am 41 years old. I have been considering taking training in automotive technology. Questions : Do you think I am too old? What do you think would be the best way to go about this if I decide to do so? (I have done some studying on this subject....I started...but did not finish...a correspondence course in automotive tech!) Anything you want to say or add would be appreciated!

I'd say go for it. Definitely not too old, I go to the local community college here (Washtenaw Community College, great automotive program), and there are quite a few older guys in the program that get along just fine with us younger dudes...

In order to find the path, you must first choose a destination.

What do you want to achieve? A career change? One of the specialties?

No.

What Brando said. Community College is usually the best place to learn the basics.

Not a good sign.

Let's be positive Norm.

You're definitely not too old by a long shot Victor. See what your options are as far as training facilities in your area and go from there. Good luck.

So long as you have a willingness to learn, and aren't afraid to get in 'over your head', I am sure you would do fine.

I got my Auto Tech degree in 2004 from my local community college. I took it through my high-school, and it was well worth it- I learned quite a bit, and got to tinker with my own ride in the process.

If you pursue the opportunity, good luck, and let us know how you do!

Also, what is "automotive correspondence"? Is that like training to work a parts counter, or technical writing or something?
