Engine, that is...

I was on the local craigslist tonite, and I came across a listing from the neighboring town from where I grew up. First some background...

When I was 16 I had an 84 Cutlass that a local cop had put a 350 in. I bought the car, and promptly blew the metric 200 transmission. I ended up with a TH-350, and I did quite a bit of engine work on it with this older gearhead in town, who was the only one into Oldsmobiles in the small town I grew up in.

I wrecked that car, and it broke the transmission in three pieces, but I pulled the engine and bought a junkyard TH400 and put behind it. I then put that in a 79 chevy 1/2 ton truck, using all the factory diesel mounts, battery box, etc. I drove this all throughout highschool, and when I came to college, I let it sit at my parents.

Well, about a half semester in, my parents said I needed to do something with the truck, so I had my dad sell it to a chevy truck collector because I had a lot of rust free parts on the truck that I had purchased over the 3 years I had the thing. He lived in the neighboring town where this craigslist engine/trans is located.

What I find very coincidental is that the same person is placing many ads selling old chevy truck parts, which is what he did for a living. He restored a few to drive, but then collected them and parted them out.

Given how uncommon Olds stuff is in that area, I think it would be a rather large coincidence if that wasn't my old engine. Hopefully he will be sending me a picture soon.

I don't have room for it, nor do I have anything to put it in, but it just seems like fate has brought me back to the "old girl" and I think I might have to buy it back. Seems like a rare opportunity to be re-united with my first Olds. I really regretted getting rid of it, and who knows what condition it is in now, but I'd love to get her back.

Sorry there really isn't any point to this thread, but I thought it might be interesting to share.

Well... That was one hell of a coincidence. Ended up not being 'the one'. Makes for a good story though.
