I tried to remove the molding around the windows on my intrigue, but did not succeed as I have no clue how to do it. Do I need a special tool?
I found a few screws to remove, but other than that I have no idea what was holding them on...probably some type of clips I would imagine.
Is this what I need? Or some other tool?
Here are some images of another car that I found on eBay, which has the same problem...but mine is a lot worse...
As you can see, there is rubber covering part of the molding, which cracks and peels...and looks horrible showing the rusty chrome underneath. Since the faulty part is discontinued and no longer sold by GM...not even a TSB on it.....
I got some black trim paint, and plan to take them off and paint them.

| I had to use a Heat gun and a lot of cursing and patience and a pry tool. |

Well...after a little searching in the service manual...I found it.
Sealing Strip - Front Door Window Belt Outer
Removal Procedure:
1. Remove the outside rearview mirror. (Have to remove the door panel in order to do this.)
2. Lower the front door window.
3. Remove the front door outer belt sealing strip screw.
4. Remove the front door outer belt sealing strip from the pinchweld flange, by lifting up the sealing strip.
Sealing Strip Replace - Rear Door Window Belt Outer
Removal Procedure:
1. Lower the rear door window.
2. Remove the outer belt sealing strip screw.
3. Remove the outer belt sealing strip from the rear door pinchweld flange, by pulling the sealing strip upward.

I use black electrical tape and replace it every now and then. ;)
I don't know what GM was thinking with this cheap crap the put on here. |

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with the same problem on their Olds.
I'm thinking of taking the weather stripping off and just letting the "chrome" show underneath. Thoughts? comments? |

I read of someone doing that...I believe the problem was it corroded soon after polishing it up....
I haven't gotten around to this project yet, but I still plan to use some flat black trim paint.
