Hello,

I am brand new to the forum. My 98 Regency Elite has been great for the past 60000 miles since I bought it. Presently riding around 155k getting 35mpg+ hwy.

I NEED HELP!

Wheel is making a hum (FWD car mind you) that is speed sensitive- it increases with speed from 20 - 80 mph. ANY IDEAS??

I also figure this is the time to replace ball joints, struts & noisy mounts, and anything else needed. Is this a wheel bearing issue do you think? CV Axle maybe?

Thanks for your help in advance!

My first instinct is that it is probably a wheel bearing.

CV axles usually make a clicking sound when you turn, and ball joints make a pop when exerted to their limits.

At 155k miles, having the front end looked at by a competent shop isn't a bad idea, especially if you don't have the maintenance records from before you owned the car, but if the car drives fine otherwise, you may want to wait on ball joints, etc. The key there is a competent shop. Make sure they aren't just looking to take your money.

Like the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"-

Welcome to TOC,

Andrew

It most likely is a wheel bearing. Having them both replaced might be a very good idea due to the fact that if one goes, the other one isn't far behind.
