Tomorrow the Delta 88 is going to meet its maker. With almost 337,000 miles on the original engine and nearly everything on the car falling apart, its time to call it a day. The Delta needs all new brake lines and fuel line (as they are leaking and heavily rusted, in fact I lost a brake line while driving on Wednesday) the body is rotting on every door, the rear quarters and the floor pan. The master cylinder is shot, she doesn't have any paint on her, and the door leak badly when it rains because the weatherstripping is shot.
All things considered this car has been the best car of any make or model my family has ever owned. Its got around 336,900 miles on it though the transmission was rebuilt at 160,000 miles. Although its sad that more and more Olds will meet a similar fate as time goes on, I can say that this car lived up to the quote in the 1988 Oldsmobile full size brochure::
"Its quality, quality of a very special kind, Oldsmobile quality." |
