This month hasn't been to kind to my cars,
My Aurora (2001 3.5LV6 88,000 miles) has developed an intermittent hard shift. It usually happens when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear though it can happen during any shift. I rarely have issue with the 3-4 shift, and the 1-2 shift is not usually an issue though sometimes it is a little harder then others). The 2-3 shift on the other hand is getting to be an issue.
The shifting has become so bad that I'm afraid to drive the car. I can drive it for an hour, a day or a week and not have an issue with the shifting, then it might shift bad once, or it might shift badly for a week straight. It is intermittent, though the distance I drive seems to play a role.
If I take my usually way to and from school, the car will usually not act up, or if it does, its when I'm nearly home.
If I take the long way (due to traffic etc) I get about 1/2 way home and start having an issue. The total distance is 20-25 miles round trip depending on which way I go.
The hard shifting can range from non existent to slightly noticeable, to extreme. At its worst, the shift is so violent it feels like I hit another car or ran into something at a good speed.
When I plug in my scan tool I get code P0716, input turbine sensor circuit range/performance problem.I have checked the transmission fluid and it seems ok.
What is an input turbine sensor?
How is it repaired?
Ideas on the cost of such a repair?
I need a vacation from my cars. |

I brought the car to our local GM dealer today. They replaced the intermediate steering shaft on my Aurora in January, thats where it serviced as well as my dad and my brother each buying cars there.
They are replacing the input turbine sensor and a solenoid in the transmission. Toss in the usual maintenance stuff and theres the estimate that they called and gave me...$1,300.00
If GM ever again turns a profit, they just might have me to thank. |
