It would probably be pretty hard, but I was wondering what would have to be done to turbocharge my engine. I can get a turbo setup for $50 off of a 1987 pontiac sunbird 2.0L in a local u-pull 'yard. hate to take the car apart actually it's one of 1200 turbo gt convertibles! It's a small turbo and I was only wanting maybe a coupla of psi. I know i have the engine room and my friends dad has a complete machine shop in his basement! I was just wondering if it would be worth the trouble and what may have to be done internally.

How good condition is your motor? I wouldn't turbo anything over 50,000 or 60,000 miles maybe 80,000 miles if the motor has been taken care of.

not worth the effort in my opinion, especially with a used engine that may or may not have 70,000 miles on it.

hey this next winter you will be able to follow along as me and Al turbocharge the rear 3800 in the 94 442 we will be using a Mitsu TD06 (20G upgraded) turbo that is a size bigger than the stock TD06-17C-8cm^2 that the 91-93 syclone/typhoon's use and will flow enough air to support 450hp at 76% efficiency and 550hp at 70% compressor efficiency. the turbo you have will spool up quick and you will probably not have any issues if you run<10 psi a better turbo might be a Garret turbo off a chrysler 2.2/2.5L turbo (it's bigger than the mitsu chrysler turbo those cars had) and they are capable of over 28 psi (my 87 GTS runs 13psi--14psi is the fuel cutoff) we will be fabing a new x over pipe to mount the turbo to a new down pipe and then the compressor side plumbing (we will be intercooled at some point-when we deside to go over 10-14 psi) the oil pluming just taps into you oil press sender port (with a T fitting) and you will have to make a bung on the oil pan for the oil to drain into then just plumb up the coolant lines to the turbo (ours has them, some turbo's dont have coolant ports for cooling) do some reasearch and talk to the manufacturers of the 3800 turbo kits as they will probably bolt up with no problem, we are going with the redneck method and will be using SAAB cold start injectors (as many are necc) with pressure activated Hobbs switches to keep the AF ratio sane, before we go to the MegaSquirt DIY EFI for when we really wick up the pressure!
this is turbo dodge stuff but the DIY adj fuel pressure regulator and grainger boost controller will work on any vehicle with a little work.
