Alright i got this problem right, ive been tring to get that right sound for my 1988 Olds Royale...Now i dont know what size to get, some people say that 3 and a quater inch pipes will give it a growl but i dont want no growl! i dont want a roar, i want an explosion for Christs sake! I heard that if I want to wake tha nighborhood i should get those Double 4 and a half chrome pipes...sooo someone gimme sme ideas....ohhh an does anyone know where i cnget those sparkers that you put in your xhaust pipes so that when you punch tha accelerator it shoots sparks out our pipes??

I know next to nothing about exhaust, except how to fix leaks... But I would definately be interested if anyone knows anything about the 1988 royales and exhaust, cause I would love to get a bit of a louder muffler aswell...

But I dont want the explosion that he's looking for... Something a little more tame... But meaner than the stock exhaust at the same time.

Not sure bout the exhaust, but if you want some flames coming out of the back, you can get a flame thrower kit from Autoloc. They have a lotta sweet kits to pimp out any car....Lambo Hinge System, Flame Thrower Kits, Suicide Door Hinges, Door Popper Kits, and Split Hood Systems....check em' out!

A turbo muffler is what you need, It gives a loud roar during acceleration, and growl on the highyway.

that is illegal, but drill a hole in the exhaust, put a heli-coil in(threads for spark plug) get spark plugs, and a couple of cheap coils, mount the coils connect the wires. Be sure to have power to the coils.
Great for carshows, not for highway use.

ok..i GOTTA throw my .02 cents in on this one..Primer Death, Brando...lol..i'm sure ya wouldnt expect any less.. :D first off...going to an extremely large exhaust system is pointless unless you have the power to take advantage of it, and can actually harm performance more than help it..IF you could run a minimum of 3" exhaust theoretically, it would probably hamper performance more than help, due to the fact of too LITTLE exhaust restriction..this isnt a concern on a carbureted car, BUT..on a fuel injected car, the engine must have backpressure to pick up the proper sensor readings...or else the engine wont feed the correct fuel mixture....now arelli..i know youre question is well intentioned, BUT...you need to decide which you want more of..performance..or the " bling bling" factor...IF, in fact, you could fit 3 1/4" single exhaust, or 2 4 1/2" pipes ( honestly, i dunno WHERE you got that from, bro :? ) the engine wont be able to take advantage of it..kinda like an inverse idea of shoving a orange thru a straw, into a tunnel...too much backpressure at first, and not enough later on...the 3.8 olds engines have always been known to have a "rap", so to speak..its the design of the engine that makes em do this, and is something that you'll usually pick up with em no matter WHAT ya do....2 1/2" is PLENTY on a stock 3.8...shouldnt need any more than that

i used 2 & 1/4 exhaust with a exelerater muffler & a cherry bomb for a catalytic converter. people mistake my 3.8 for a V-8

im workin on putting a flowmaster 40 series on my 84 delta 88 royale, just got it from jegs along with a holley 4" tip.. should sound nice when its all in place :D

That's the exact same kind of muffler I got on my 3.1 Ciera SL. Dual turbo's in the back and yes, they sound very nice! It really does sound like a mild V8. 8)

Here's the deal - If you really want to make some ear shattering noise, Get an electric cutout available from Quick Time Performance. It's basically like running open headers except that you have the ability to open and close the cut-out valve from inside the car from a button mounted on your dash or center console or wherever you decide to put it at. That's really the loudest you can get... Or you can custom fab pipes coming from the headers going straight out the side of the car like this Grand National shown here...

Holy crap! I thought he broke his car when he let off on the accelerator... that's some mean machine he's got there. I like the turbo setup he had, hehe.

If you want that kind of sound you need to get an old Olds with a big block. ;) A 3.8 will never sound "mean".
