|
|
| My exhaust manifold off the front head has 2 cracks on it. I can see exhaust gases coming out from time to time usually when the pressure builds up usually when revving up. Just wondering if this is normal, and how much does a crack exhaust manifold effect the cars performance? |

I've got some sort of a leak up there on one of my manifolds aswell... I havent looked to see if its just loose yet, but I can hear the leak when I step on the gas. I hope mine's not cracked too.
Let me know how that goes... |

| you should get if fixed. leaky exhaust in the engine compartment is bad for the engine, bad for you. Been sleepy lately? The leaks might be from bad or cracked gaskets and not actually cracks in the manifolds, that would be easier to fix. |

| I took the exhaust manifold off my other engine and got it welded today. Though its like 95% sealed, when i fill the manifold with water it still drips very slowly. Im thinking of getting that exhaust paste they have that seals exhaust cracks it should cover the last bit. |

This must be a common problem because I believe I may have a cracked exhaust manifold too. Lots of exhaust smell and you can kinda hear like a steaming/seaping sound....like exhaust excaping from a small crack... :?

| you definintly want to get that fixed asapm, not only is it possibly leaking carbon monoxide intot the passanger compartment, but a leaking exhaust manifold/gasket/pipe so close to the engine will easily burn up the valves. |

| i believed mine cracked because when i got the engine swaped for the 1st time they lifted the engine out and into my van with the chains around the exhaust manifolds, 2 much weight stress on them. Im certain that sealing cracked exhaust manifolds will increase performance, everyone with them get em welded or sealed up somehow soon! |

| A good weld shouldn't leak anything. If you can find a good weld shop, use them. I don't think the exhaust repair paste is very effective, I have used it before and found that it doesn't last. Anybody that has an exhaust leak in the engine compartment should get it fixed, seriously, that is dangerous just like The DarkShadow said. |

| out of curiosity... why would leaking exhaust burn your valves? What would cause that? |

| Its a thing called back pressure. The exhaust system needs to have X amount of back pressure to run correctly as it is setup right now. IF you got an exhaust leak, taht reduces back pressure, therefore somehow *i don't know the physics behind it* maing the engine run lean and therefore, burning valves. |

| Heat wrap for the exhaust manifolds, anyone know anything about em, experience with them? Ive heard they do show a difference in performance, less engine compartment heat = cooler intake air, hot exhaust gases = faster moving exhaust. |
