what options are there for changing a steering wheel with an airbag?

anyone know how to take off the shift knob on an automatic gm? where/what can be used for a replacement/upgrade? (mine is pretty worn looking...)

this is the closest i could find...

I have been thinking about just cutting the end off the end of my shifter and putting a custom on cause I don't see how to get it off otherwise. Damn column shifter.

i'd think there would be a set screw holding it on and then would screw off. but i'm sure you all already checked that, right?

could also be just glued on.

you could always take a pair of vice grips and just crush the tip of it and see how it's held on. would be better then cutting it off in my opinion.

i'd go look at mine but ofcourse i have a floor shift so cant help you there..

wanna see :D

It's just plastic....the end kinda pops on...if you pull hard enough (or not much at all in my case) it will pop off...

ok about the air bag. i did this to mine to put on the chain steering wheel but took it off so i could get a new one.

1. Un hook your battery to make sure.
2. Take out the air bag fuse.
3. Unbolt the air bag.
4. When you go to get a adapter for your new steering wheel tell them you have a 1988 cutlass ciera with no air bag for the adapter. for the simply fact that they don't want you to take out the air bag.
5. Bolt it all together and don't put the fuse back in and hook up your battery. I know the air bag light will stay on but i didn't put my fuse back in and the light stays on but i would be afriad to put it back in cause it might mess something up. have fun trying to get off the factory steering wheel cause mine was a bitch and a half to get off.

for the shifter (at least in my old 91 lumina) there is a retainer clip on the back(front of car) side.... pull it out w/ the needlenose pliers and then the knob should just pull off.
