My friend bought some el-chepo tint at Meijer and atempted to put it in his grand am, and trust me....it's alot harder then you would expect it to be. My suggestion would be to take it in and have it done, unless you have a friend who is good with tint.

me and one of my buddies tried to put that crap on his pickup.... It was pretty tough to get it to look halfway descent. we ended up ripping it all off. It definitely takes some skill to get it just right.

Unless you have windows with a concave shape (bubbled or contoured) do it yourself!!! I have done so with all my cars up till now, and its really not that hard at all...

The worst part is you've gotta spend a lot of time in your back seat squeegying the water out from under the tint. But all my cars have turned out very well with no bubbling or tears. It does take patience though, and it is true that you need to buy a good tint that wont fade or harden and crack.

I put 2.5% on my car this time, its DARK!!!!

yes you just tint right over the lines. BUT, if your back window is curved too much, it may be tough to get all the bubbles out. Use LOTS of tinting fluid and take your time, the bubbles do come out if you are careful.

Some tint has been known to melt when you use your defroster lines but most tint these days are very good at resisting heat and scratches.

i tinted my lil side windows on my car myself..
used Gila i think it was called Limo tint 5%..
wasn't hard but i took my time and made sure windows where very very clean and then cleaned them again..
keep it nice and wet and squeggie and squeegie and dont stop tell it's perfect..
hasn't faded or turned any color but what it is...
thinking about doing the main side windows with it too..
just might be pushing my luck with the local police.
i too have rear defrost and just think it would show air around the strips..

oh and you all know i cant post anything without a pic so here it is..

88, have you tried to buff out your car? will any shine come back? your car must have spent alot of time in the sun, the rest fo the car looks to be in great shape, but if you got that paint to really shine it would really look nice.

the defroster lines are thinner than you may think, if you work at it, the lines arent the problem with doing rear windows. All the fine pinhole bubbles will come out. Its the curvature of the back window that really kills a person. After you're done tinting the back window, the defroster lines look really cool from the outside, they look an orange color...

88ciera, did you stick the tint to the outside of the window to measure and cut the piece of film? thats how I usually do it, but I've heard there are lots of ways.

Iam getting my windows done Professionaly,
its gonna cost me $300 canadian, with a life time warranty,
and this place slices the tint so fine that you cant even see it, and that is for the rear defroster, this way it wont ever get ruined from the heat.

I think it is worth the money to get it done by a shop.
