|
|
| What can i do to raise the rear end of my 86 442 about an inch. im looking for more of that "musclecar stance". i had a friend tell me that he used to put spring boosters in his springs to raise the back end a bit, so i went to the auto parts store but i couldnt find any big enough for my 442s rear springs. any ideas u guys have are greatly appreciated. |

Get a pair of air shocks... they'll bolt right in in place of normal shocks, then all you have to do is run some tubing and put an air fitting somewhere in your trunk or under your bumper, etc.
they'll give you a noticable lift depending on how much pressure you keep in them, although too much pressure will make the car ride hard. another benefit is that you can pump them up so your car will be able to handle alot more weight in the trunk / backseat without sagging. |

| Thanks for the response. Where would be the best place to buy the shocks from, and about how much is it gonna cost? |

| get the heavy duty cargo springs for B-body wagons, that what I heard a couple guys do. I suggest against airshocks for everyday driving though |

I have them on my car and can't imagine why it would hinder the drivability.

i too would suggest the air shocks..
much easier install and much more adjustable.
add an inch or a foot.what ever suits your fancy that praticulier day.
a friend of mine put them on his old camaro.
jacked the assend up really nicely.
is true however that the more air you put in it the harder the ride well be..
trade offs on everything.
but 1 inch would not be noticable AT ALL.
i'd go with at least 3 or 4 inches ass up.
put some fat tires on the back and skinnies on the front.. |

| I have done air shocks in cars four or five times, everything said so far is true. Just be careful about the routing of the air hoses. Take your time, keep them away from pinch points and hot exhaust pipes, leave slack from the last point where they are secured to the frame to the shock itself, remember you will need enough slack to fully extend the air shocks, finally, use lots of zip ties; they're cheap and worth it. Oh, btw, take care in where the valve stem is mounted, be sure it won't get damaged by something in the trunk if you mount it inside the trunk and use silicone sealant on both the inside and outside. |
