Hi everyone, I'm new here. I have an '89 88 Royale which doesn't handle very well. There's a lot of body roll when I go around hard turns, and when I go over bumps there's a lot of up-and-down movement, especially in the back, and especially when I have passengers in the car. On tuesday my dad drove the family to the airport in my car, and the rear bottomed out a couple of times with three people in the back seat.
I just want to know what kind of upgrades I can do to tighten up the ride so the car doesn't do these things anymore. Basically I'm looking to have a firmer, sporty ride if that's possible.

if it's bouncing it probably needs either struts or shocks or both
i'd check them before doing anything else to itlike springs and such

It looks like you are in the same boat as I was....if your rear is bottoming out like that then you it's definately the rear struts (there are no shocks). I did the job my self, you don't need a spring compressor, as the are mounted separately from the struts. If you feel you can't do it, then by all means bring it to a shop...but you can save quite a few bux off of labor by doing it yourself, as it really isn't that tough of a job. Expect to take a couple days off of not using the car though if you plan to do the job yourself, if you have some help though....I suppose it could go a lot quicker. I used some Napa Response struts...I also changed the mounts as the rubber on them can wear away...so it's best to change those too. My total price for the rear struts and mounts was $116 something, but I had a 10% discount since my brother works there. You may also want to change your front struts, if they haven't been changed before. Mine were fine as I believe they were changed before.

P.S. It helped that I had an air compressor and air impact wrench to use on the knuckle bolts, if you don't have these tools readily available....you may just want to bring it to a shop as those bolts can be on there pretty damn tight and require a lot of torque and oil :) to get them off.
